Welcome

tentsSome folks describe small town life as “quiet.” They’ve never been to Prophetstown! Something’s always happening in this small but progressive community. Schools, churches and civic groups keep the calendar packed with events, activities, parades, festivals, athletic events and more. We’re also proud of our state-of-the-art recreation center offering indoor swimming, fitness equipment and indoor basketball courts, as well as a full slate of year ‘round activities outside.

Enjoy the great outdoors? We do too! Located on the banks of the Rock River, Prophetstown boasts a beautiful state park offering fishing, camping and picnicking. Nearby are a state fish and wildlife area, and a challenging nine-hole golf course. Enjoy time in nature without crowds, parking hassles and long drives. Prophetstown: Practically Perfect!

Attractions

Eclipse Square Park
Located in downtown Prophetstown on land once home to the Eclipse Lawn Mower Factory, the recently restored park honors area veterans and showcases historical monuments, including an 1870s-era cannon.

Historic Murals
A series of prize winning, original murals depicting milestones in Prophetstown’s history are located at various sites throughout the city. Look for them on the north side of the tavern, south side of Mr. G’s Supermarket, north side of the Majeski Building, and in the city council chambers at Prophetstown City Hall. All of the murals were painted by art students at Prophetstown High School with assistance from Bob Deines, art teacher at the high school, Bud Thompson and other volunteers.

The murals program received state recognition in 2005: Prophetstown was named “The Most Arts-Friendly Small Town in Illinois” by the Illinois Arts Alliance Foundation and the Illinois Municipal League, which also presented the city with the President’s Award for the murals program.
