Greetings from the mayor of Prophetstown! We’re proud of our community, and glad for the opportunity to share it with you.
Prophetstown is a progressive community of 2,000 located in northwest Illinois. Municipal facilities/services include a water system, wastewater treatment facility, waste collection/curbside recycling, police, volunteer fire and ambulance service, and a public library. The city’s streets are well maintained; all city streets are paved and most have curb and gutter.
Prophetstown’s municipal government is operated in an open, professional and responsive manner, with active involvement by city staff and elected officials. The city is governed by an elected mayor and council; input from local residents is welcomed and encouraged.

POLICE
A fully staffed and trained police department oversees law enforcement and emergency needs in the city of Prophetstown. All officers (three full-time and two part-time) are state certified and receive training on a regular basis. The department’s three patrol vehicles are equipped with sophisticated dispatch/communications equipment allowing communication to law enforcement agencies at the local, county and state level. The department is housed at Prophetstown City Hall.

FIRE
Fire protection services are provided by the Prophetstown Fire Protection District, covering 138 square miles in Whiteside and Henry, serving the communities of Prophetstown, Lyndon and Hooppole. The district, which is governed by a three-member board of trustees, holds insurance ratings of class six (urban) and class nine (rural).
The Prophetstown fire station is supported by 27 volunteers operating four trucks and one rescue squad vehicle, and is directed by a chief and assistant chief. The Lyndon Fire Station is manned by 20 volunteers, and operates a fleet of two fire trucks and one rescue squad vehicle. The Hooppole Fire Station is manned by 20 volunteers, and operates a fleet of two fire trucks and one rescue squad vehicle.

AMBULANCE
Ambulance services are provided by the Prophetstown Ambulance Service, manned by 25 professionally trained volunteers. Services range from basic first aid to trauma care and full life support during emergency transport. The ambulance service is conducted in full compliance with all relevant state guidelines and regulations.
Three ambulance vehicles are used by the service, which covers roughly the same area as the Fire Protection District, with ambulances and volunteers in Prophetstown, Lyndon and Hooppole. The ambulance service is housed with the fire department in a modern, centrally located facility.

The city of Prophetstown provides weekly waste collection and curbside recycling services (residential and commercial) through a private contractor, Moring Disposal.

SEWER/WATER
Prophetstown’s city-owned water system consists of a 121-ft. tower with elevated storage capacity of 260,000 gallons. The system is designed for maximum output of 500 gallons/minute (720,000 gallons/day). Average daily use is 200,000 gallons.
The city’s wastewater treatment facility consists of an aerated lagoon system with rock filters and excess flow lagoon. Design flow is 260,000 gallons; average flow is 210,000 gallons.

Library
The Henry C. Adams Memorial Library collection includes large print books, audio books, educational videos and CD-ROM games, as well as 14,000 books. Access to additional materials is available through an interlibrary loan system. Computers are available for public use; fax and copy services are also offered. Services include book delivery to local care facilities and summer reading programs.
